Festive Brussel Sprouts Tablescape (with Free Gift Box Template)

Brussel Sprouts Tablescape

I’ve always loved Brussel sprouts. I might have pretended to hate them to fit in with my friends, but deep down I secretly liked them. When I started cooking Christmas dinner nearly 10 years ago, I discovered through Nigella the joys of cooking them with pancetta, chestnuts and Marsala and now they have an even more exalted position in my heart!

This year we are spending Christmas at my family home but the season wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t host a dinner for my family during Advent. Really, it just means I end up cooking for them twice, which I love and they love so everyone ends up happy.

I wanted something a little less traditional for my tablescape, as with the same guests I didn’t want two identical gatherings. So what better way to convert my sprout-hating sister than with these contemporary Brussels themed dinner decorations.

Designing a Brussel Sprout Tablescape

Christmas crackers are such a great British tradition – before we begin feasting, we pull them together, don our fetching paper hats and read aloud the inevitable groany joke. We swap cracker toys unless you managed to get the large paper clip (in which case no one is interested!)

Crackers always take pride of place at our Christmas table and this one is no different. I decided to hinge everything around these fabulous Brussel Sprouts Crackers by Nancy & Betty Studio. I love the contemporary, modern feel these lend to the table, so much so that I also tried to carry this same, clean cut colour scheme throughout.

I’m pretty sure everyone I know is tired of mini playing cards (when was an ordinary pack ever deemed too big?), fake moustaches and tape measures flying out of their cracker.  Which is why I LOVE these crackers so much – if you order them from Sous Chef, all the little gifts inside have a culinary twist. Every single one is useful! Not to mention, how adorable is the little mini grater?

Deciding a Colour Scheme for the Brussel Sprouts Tablescape

Since the Christmas crackers are predominantly white and green, I wanted to reflect this in the tablescape design. I kept the tablecloth and plates a clean, crisp white and introduced different shades of green through the foliage and sprout-coloured baubles. I love how the black ribbons bring a striking contrast though, so echoed this through the black napkins and favour boxes.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a little sparkle; I wanted to bring a metallic shine into the palette. It was a fairly close toss up between silver and gold but ultimately the silver triumphed. Silver chargers and baubles (not to mention cutlery) bring the glitz and glamour to this table!

Brussel Sprouts Tablescape Favours

I like to leave a little favour at each place setting so when I stumbled across these mini chocolate Brussel Sprouts, I simply couldn’t resist. Even my sister can’t object to chocolate sprouts! I tried packing them in cellophane bags but they looked a little flat and didn’t stand out enough. Never one to be defeated, I instead went ahead and made up some mini hexagonal boxes to pop them in.

I’m so pleased with how this table design panned out and I can’t wait to welcome my family over to our little London flat to celebrate. What’s your verdict on Brussel Sprouts? Love ’em or hate them?

  1. I’m just loving this elegant tablescape. For years, my favorite color was lime green! I just love how you created something unique. I’d have never thought of using Brussel Sprouts to decorate. You really pulled this off!
